W5@ZLC

Each Fall we introduce a theme for the non-summer months of the year at Zion (October-May). This year we will be doing the five Ws. Now I know you are wondering what those five are? No, "wolverine" is not one of them! We are letting the seasons of the historic church year set the Ws for us. Are you ready?

W1 October/November “Worshiping Together”

The focus will be on being in worship together and having fellowship such as Sunday morning breakfasts in Piper Hall Sundays during October and November, and a Pig Roast on Sunday, October 9th after worship. We will worship together with fellowship and joy!

W2 November 27th - December “Watching Together”

This is the season of advent which has always been one of preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus (His first coming) by "watching" for His return (the second coming). Together we shall watch through special weekly devotionals in print and on our website. As always we shall encourage one another to purchase animals for third world villages and participating in the foster care gift program. We will watch together by "making straight" the way of the Lord!

Christmas Eve Services - December 24th at 5, 7:30, and 10 p.m.

Christmas Day Service - December 25th at 10 a.m.

W3 January/February “Working Together”

This is the season of Epiphany ("to shine forth" or "make known") which remembers that Jesus came for all people. The coming of the Magi or wise men from the East is the Bible story that propels us to reach out to the whole world. These months will be sprinkled with guest preachers and the celebration of our partnerships in Africa, Haiti, regional Hispanic ministry, Palestine and others. We will recommit ourselves to working together so that all the globe will know Jesus Christ!

New Years Day Service - January 1st at 10 a.m.

W4 February/March "Walking Together"

The season of Lent is a 40 day journey to the cross and empty tomb. Believers have always understood that you just don't come unprepared to Good Friday and Easter, but take the journey of preparation. As we walk together in Lent, we will begin with Ash Wednesday worship and conclude in Holy Week with our traditional Maundy Thursday and Good Friday worship services. In between we will have midweek worship with lunch on Wednesdays. The staff will prepare devotional materials (hard copy and online) for members to use at home during the week which will tie into the worship services on the following Sunday.

Ash Wednesday Services - February 22nd at 5 and 7 p.m.

Holy Week Worship
-
Palm Sunday - April 1 at 8:15, 9:30 and 11 a.m.
- Maundy Thursday Service with stripping of the altar - April 5 at 7 p.m.
- Good Friday Tenebrae Service - April 6 at 7 p.m.

W5 April/May “Winning Together”

Easter is a season and it is a victorious way of life for Christians. In these months we will renew our commitment to celebrate the resurrection life.

Easter Morning Worship - April 8 at 8:15, 9:30 and 11 a.m.

Confirmation Celebration - May 20 at 8:15 and 9:30 a.m. (No 11 a.m. worship on May 20)

Pentecost Service - May 27 at 10 a.m.
