40 Days of Community: Better Together

God's Love in Action, October 3 - November 14
Six weeks of Spiritual Growth and Community Service

What on Earth are we here for?

During our upcoming 40 Days of Community Campaign, we'll explore that question. We’ll do it by praying together, worshipping together, growing together, reaching out together, helping together and - finally - celebrating together.

Beginning on October 3, Zion will be partnering with Saddleback Church in California - and hundreds of other congregations nationwide - as we launch a six-week campaign intended to foster spiritual growth and a shared sense of unity and purpose. Working as a congregation and in small groups, we will seek to fulfill God's purposes for us (1) by developing and deepening an authentic community within Zion, and (2) by reaching out to the wider community through service projects.

Start Small, Think Big

Like the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign, which we undertook in 2004, 40 Days of Community will focus on the small group experience. Our aim is to establish at least 60 groups of approximately 10 people each. It is these groups that will enable us to help live out God's purposes in our lives, our church and our community.

Small groups are forming now. So this is the perfect time to join - or volunteer to serve as a host.

At The Heart of It All: The Missions Project

The Missions Project is the vehicle that will move Zion outside of its four walls and into the harvest field of a world in desperate need of Christ's love. Each small group will identify a local outreach opportunity - a service project that can be completed within four weeks but could also lead to a long-term helping relationship.

What Can You Do?

Pray for the campaign—ask for God’s blessing and guidance as we undertake this work of the Spirit.  Ask that every member of Zion be inspired to participate with an open mind and an open heart.  Pray for the work teams, for our church leaders, and for the impact of the campaign in the lives of Zion members and the people of our community as we reach out to show God’s love in action.

Then join a small group. And prepare yourself for the life-changing adventure of 40 Days of Community!

Study Materials

For our 40 Days of Community, we'll be using a daily devotional book, a daily journal, and weekly small group study guide - a total of two books that will be available to every Zion member for $15.

It takes a lot of people to make this successful, so ask what role God wants you to play to play in 40 Days of Community. If you feel called to be a small group leader, please contact Christine Carlsen ().
