Discipleship at Zion
We
believe we are all called to be disciples – followers of Jesus.
As we become more spiritually mature, we move from simply believing
doctrines about God into a relationship with God that transforms
the way we live and think in every aspect of our life, expecting
God’s transforming power in our lives. Adult Discipleship
Ministries provide a wide array of opportunities for adults to learn
about and mature in their faith. All of the ministries are open
to all who are interested. For more information please contact Christine
Carlsen, 734-994-4455, ext. 15,
ccarlsen@zlc-aa.org.
New
Member Classes
For those considering
membership at Zion, we offer orientation classes quarterly; January,
April, July, and October. Check with the church office for exact
dates. Orientation requires attendance at three classes each about
an hour and a half in length where you will be introduced to Lutheran
beliefs, the ministry opportunities available to you at Zion, the
staff at Zion, and last but not least, encouraged to enter into
relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and each other
through worship, education and service. Lutherans entering by transfer
of membership will also be encouraged to attend these orientation
sessions.
Adult Classes
At
both 9:45 and 11:00 a.m. on Sundays and sometimes in the evening
(on Sundays and during the week), adult classes are offered, with
topics ranging from Bible study to family issues. Most classes are
6-weeks long, so several topics are covered each year. The learning
environment seeks to encourage a sense of community, intellectual
challenge, deepened faith and changed lives. Even if you can’t
attend all sessions of a class, you are welcome to come when you
can. Visit the Adult
Classes page.
ChristCare Small Groups
One
of the most powerful ways to develop spiritual maturity along with
deep friendship with other Christians is participation in a small
group. Zion offers many small groups, and new ones form throughout
the year. Groups meet regularly to study the Bible, pray together,
share their lives with each other, and offer service to others.
- Small
Group Leaders --
We
have meetings for all current small group leaders. This is our
ongoing opportunity for support, education, and accountability.
- A
number of new Small Groups started in Fall 2007. The new groups
include 20/30-something singles, young couples, and young families.
Retreats and Camps
Each year Zion offers a variety of retreat experiences – for
men, women, couples, families – varying in length from ½
day to 2 ½ days. Retreats provide special settings for “getting
away from it all” to concentrate on one’s faith and
relationships.
- Women
of Faith Conference - April 25 in Columbus, Ohio. Contact
Sue Walters or Christine Carlsen for details.
- Women
of the ELCA Gathering
- July 10-13 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Visit http://www.womenoftheelca.org
for more information.
Prayer
Ministries
The
Prayer Ministry hosts prayer meetings and encourages members to
surround Zion's leadership and projects in prayer.
Prayer
Chain
- Become part of the prayer chain! No experience is necessary
– just a desire to pray for others. Each Monday the prayer
requests from the congregation are sent via e-mail or telephone
to those on the prayer chain. You may have experienced a time
in your own life when the powerful support of being surrounded
by prayer helped you. You are invited to be part of this same
power of prayer for others. Simply call 994-4455 or e-mail Micki
Nixon (mnixon@zlc-aa.org)
in the church office to participate.
Prayer
Dots
- During Zion's construction, we encourage everyone to place tiny
dot stickers (you can find them in baskets at Zion) in special
places to remind you to pray for all who are working on the project
and that the work that is done will glorify God. Find more information
at Zion or ask one of our leaders.
