Adult Classes at Zion

We offer adult classes on Sunday mornings (and sometimes in the evening and mid-week too) so that we continue to learn and grow in our understanding and experience of our faith. Please take advantage of one of them! While it’s always good to be able to attend all of the class sessions if possible, it’s also just fine to come when you can!

Adult Classes - Summer 2008

Our immersion in the Bible continues! The following is a list includes upcoming classes related to this journey.

Sunday Morning Classes

The Faith, Foibles, and Flaws of Old Testament Patriarchs
June 1st to June 29th at 9:30 & 11 a.m.

The Old Testament Patriarchs loom large throughout the book of Genesis and Exodus, and provide us with many examples of steadfast faith, bad judgment, and reconciliation with God. The focus of this five-week class will be on the lives of the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Esau, Joseph and Moses, as told in the Old Testament. We will explore their images and importance in the New Testament as well. (Location: Piper Hall)

Left Behind? You? Me? Why and How?
July 13th to August 24th at 9:30 & 11 a.m.

Rapture theology is sold to millions of fundamentalist and dispensationalist evangelicals through novels and sermons. Our goal will be to consider the teaching of Jesus Christ versus what Christian Zionists are teaching. How does this ideology fit into our understanding of the second coming of Jesus? In what way has it become political and why? With the help of several scholars, we will examine the vocabulary and belief systems of this relatively new idea of end-times prediction, the history and real-life consequences that impact the lives of millions in the Middle East and throughout the world. (Location: Piper Hall)
