Classes at Zion
We
offer adult classes on Sunday mornings (and sometimes in the evening
and mid-week too) so that we continue to learn and grow in our understanding
and experience of our faith. Please take advantage of one of them!
While it’s always good to be able to attend all of the class
sessions if possible, it’s also just fine to come when you
can!

The Examples of the Saints (Aug 1 - Aug 29)
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Location: Holtfreter Room A
In the heat of the Reformation, Luther strongly rebuked some of his followers who had removed images of saints from his church in Wittenberg. Luther claimed that the examples of the saints were very useful for helping Christians strengthen their own faith and for providing models for good Christian lives. Following Luther's lead, this class will examine the lives and traditions surrounding a number of the saints ranging from St. Francis and Thomas Aquinas to Catherine and Ann. Deepening our understanding of the lives and faith of these Christians will, as Luther reminded us, help us to strengthen our own faith and illuminate a variety of ways in which Christians have lived lives true to the Gospel message. Join us!
Steadfast Hope: The Palestinian Quest for Just Peace (Sept 12, 19, and 26)
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Location:
We will use this guide to study the situation in Israel/Palestine as the focus of three sessions in September. Topics will include the gospel mandate for peacemaking; Jewish, Palestinian, Christian, American narratives; the ongoing occupation; and responses of churches, nations and individuals around the world. We are reminded of the ELCA's commitment to advocacy for this community in need. As reported in the last few weeks: (1) Gaza's sole power station was shut down due to lack of fuel. Gaza’s hospitals announced a state of emergency. And (2) over ninety Palestinian houses and structures have been demolished in the occupied territories; the civil administration of Israel began razing housing units again in the northern Jordan valley.
